Winner of twelve Washington Area Music awards for Best Jazz, World, and Urban Contemporary Vocalist, Amikaeyla was named the nation's best female composer in 2006 & 2008 and was invited to perform in India at the request and invitation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Amikaeyla is the founder and Executive Director of ICAHSI, the International Cultural Arts & Healing Sciences Institute and travels the world extensively as a Cultural Arts Ambassador in partnership with organizations such as the US State Department and the UNHCR. ICAHSI is a contemporary interdisciplinary cultural arts and educational institute and emphasizes collaborations with artists worldwide in performances and engagements on stage, in the studio and in the classrooms to promote healing and wellness through arts and activism. In the past few years she has taken her "Healing With An Artful Purpose" program - a multi-faceted therapeutic approach to healing at-risk youth - to Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Israel, Beirut, Syria and Palestine hoping to aid in alleviating pain and trauma caused by war.
Claudia J. Ford, PhD has had a career in international women's health and development spanning three decades and all continents. Dr. Ford is a midwife and ethnobotanist whose research interests are in traditional ecological knowledge, agroecology, women's reproductive health, and medicinal plants. She currently teaches Women's Studies, Environmental Literature and Justice, Environmental and Business Ethics, and Global Business Economics. Claudia is also a writer and visual artist, and has shared the joys and adventures of her global travel with her four children.
Deb Soule began gardening and studying the medicinal uses of herbs over 40 years ago while growing up in western Maine. In 1985 she founded Avena Botanicals Herbal Apothecary and Healing Garden in Rockport, Maine. Deb tends a 3 acre biodynamic herb garden which provides numerous herbs for Avena's herbal tinctures, teas, salves, and crèmes and serves as a sanctuary garden for pollinators and people. She is the author of The Woman's Handbook of Healing Herbs and How To Move Like a Gardener.
Jenn Allen is an herbalist, botanical perfumer, Sacred Beekeeper, Writer, Ceremonialist, and Mental Health Counselor, who is best known for her accessible and down to earth teaching style that weaves the hands on techniques of the healing arts with the Sacred. She seeks to integrate traditional ceremonial practices with contemporary ecopsychological theory into a new paradigm model for mental health At home, she stewards sanctuary space for her beloved honeybees and endangered woodland plants.
Tammi Sweet is a passionate and energetic teacher. Her love, amazement and wonder of the human body and how it works shines through as she presents the material in ways people can really understand and take home. She loves integrating the wisdom of the body with all aspects of living. Presently she co-directs her Herbal Program at Heartstone Herbal School, and travels to teach Anatomy and Physiology at conferences and Herbal Schools. Her learning of the body has come through many paths including traditional Master's level college studies in Neurobiology, collegiate athletics, college level Anatomy teaching, Massage School, Yoga Teacher Training, Herbal studies, and most importantly, an ever-growing love of understanding who we are in relation with this wonderful home we call earth.
